Enjoy a Variety of Homes and Native Gardens

I.
A classic 1928 West Asheville bungalow with modern “Green” home features.  Perhaps the most enjoyable attractions are outdoors:  colorful, wonderful low-maintenance gardens filled with native plants, berry bushes and a fish pond, and utilizing several large, 80-gallon rain barrels which can harvest over 685 gallons of our area’s scarce rainwater. The raised vegetable gardens use the rain barrel technology to avoid city water almost completely.
II.
In town and close to nature – with edible landscaping in the front yard and a community garden, food is only a few steps away.  Built using salvaged oak and ironwork from local artists, this home uses passive solar for efficient heating as well as radiant floor heating and water-conserving rain barrels.

III.
A new home featuring a roof-mounted vacuum tube solar heat collector, which supplies domestic hot water as well as provides radiant heat to both floors.  Along with an energy recovery ventilation system (ERV), the home includes spray foam insulation, high-performance low-E windows, back-up heat pump and the use of berms and concrete block walls. A Gold Certified Healthy Built™ home.

IV.
Log home renovated with latest in energy efficiency. Redone inside to maximize insulation, the heat and hot water comes from a geothermal system.  Daylighting and extensive CFL usage lights the way.

V.
Examples of Healthy Built home features inside and out.  Radiant heat and tankless water heater save energy while computer monitors total energy consumption.  Dining room table came from tree on property.   Rainwater harvesting feeds terraced garden of native plants.
