APPLE COUNTRY GUIDED NATURE BIKE TOUR
Monday, September 3, 2007
REGISTER ONLINE TODAY!

For 21 years, ECO, the Environmental and Conservation Organization has sponsored the Apple Country Bicycle Tour as part of the North Carolina Apple Festival during Labor Day Weekend.  This year, ECO has expanded its offerings, enabling participants to enjoy the countryside, learn more about Western North Carolina’s magnificent natural habitats, while having fun and getting exercise.  According to Apple Country Bike tour founder, Ken Wietzen, “this event is an ideal opportunity for cyclists and nature lovers alike to learn about and see our local wetlands, enjoy rare natural habitats, view water monitoring of area streams in action, see the future of Greenway plans and much more.”

Participants can choose between a family friendly 5 mile nature bike tour and a 15 mile more strenuous ride, both of which offer stellar examples of Henderson County’s natural jewels.  The event will end with a Labor Day celebration barbecue and music at Camp Kanuga.

Registrants are encouraged to register early, since pre-registration is required and limited spaces are expected to fill up fast.  Registration for the event which includes a BBQ lunch and entertainment is $28 for adults and $10 for children.  The event takes place on Monday, September 3rd starting at 9:30 AM.  Tickets can be purchased by mailing checks or money orders to ECO, 121 Third Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC 28792 or by calling ECO at (828) 692-0385 or printing an on-line application at www.eco-wnc.org.  All children under 14 must be accompanied by a riding adult.  This popular bike event, that will occur rain or shine, benefits the Environmental and Conservation Organization (ECO), a nonprofit organization that works for clean air, clean water, outdoor recreation, and protecting the natural heritage and resources of the mountain region.

Hike to Skinny Dip Falls
Saturday, Sept. 15th, 9:00am

Let’s go skinny dipping!
Join ECO on Saturday, September 15 at 9:00 am on a hike to one of our area’s nicest waterfalls, described as "one of the area's many pristine swimming holes" by a local newspaper.  This moderate hike to Skinnydip Falls will take approximately one hour after a 45-minute drive along the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway.  Bring your camera as the waterfall demands you take it's picture and be prepared to wade, swim (if you're adventuresome), or just dangle your feet in the cold water.  Please call to reserve your spot.  Carpoolers will meet at the Hendersonville Walmart parking lot at the end behind Chick-Fil-A at 9:00 a.m. and at the MacDonalds parking lot on Long Shoals Road at 9:30 a.m.  We will carpool from both locations.  Call ECO at 692-0385 for questions/more information.

Participants who wish to join us for lunch (bring money), we plan to stop at Pisgah Inn for lunch on the way back.
.
The hike is sponsored by the Environmental and Conservation Organization and is open to the public at no charge.  ECO has been dedicated since 1987 to clean air, clean water, recreation, and the conservation and preservation of the natural heritage and resources of the mountain region. This hike is a moderate level hike which is limited to 24 people.  Advance reservations required.

For more information phone the ECO office at 692-0385
